Teaching and Courses at Half Acre
Latest courses...

Carole Vincent qualified in the teaching of art at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham and in Physical Education at Chelsea College of PE. She taught both at the Camelford Comprehensive School from 1962 to 1971. In 1971 she chose to become self-employed and exploit the potential of Half Acre for her own work in sculpture and painting and teaching adults and children in the pighouse converted into a studio.

In 1988, she ran the pilot scheme for the Open College of the Arts and continued with their art and design, painting and sculpture courses until 1996 when their system of tutorial fees ceased. Many of these mature students still attend classes at Half Acre and have formed The Boscastle Group of Painters and Sculptors. The groups meet regularly for tutorials and courses and exhibit as a group at Half Acre and other galleries in Cornwall.Concrete, Sculpture, Painting and other Arts courses running at Half Acre Studios

CASTING IN CONCRETE : STAGE TWO 15-19 August.
This intensive five-day courase follows on from the previous beginners' courses, to learn more about plaster mould-making and concrete for sculpture. You will need to bring the original clay sculpture ready for making the mould. This could be made furinh the April sculpture course or in a few days at the open workshop, or at home if you feel confident your clay original will be suitable for casting. This course is open to new students. Numbers are limited to six, the fee higher than usual to allow for materials and an assistant - £250 including lunch.

The Sculpture Casting in Concrete course is followed by two weeks of the Summer Holiday Workshop and you may like to extend your time here. This is an open workshop for painters and sculptors taught on an individual basis. My time is divided between eight students so it cannot substitute for the Casting in concrete week but the variety of work and people is stimulating and great fun.

WORKSHOPS IN CONCRETE

Carole Vincent has conducted workshops, one, two or more days in what concrete is, for students at the Royal College of Art, recently qualified architects and engineers at the University of Westminster and for the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. She would consider organising a specific workshop for similar organisations, preferably at Half Acre, Boscastle.
